Grand Rapids Charter Township has a Department of Public Safety Services that is headed by a Director of Public Safety.  The Director of Public Safety is responsible for administering the Township’s Fire Department, conducting Township code enforcement, and is the liaison with the Kent County Sheriff Department – East Precinct and Grand Rapids Charter Township Ambulance a division of Rockford Ambulance.

Public safety services are delivered to the public in the following manner:

Grand Rapids Charter Township along with Ada and Cascade Townships provide comprehensive police services by a formal agreement with the Kent County Sheriff Department.  In 2002 the “East Precinct” was established and is located at 877 Forest Hill Avenue, SE.

FIRE SERVICES

The Grand Rapids Charter Township Fire Department was organized in 1980.  The Department is staffed by both full time and paid-on-call personnel..  The training and operations functions of the Department are coordinated by the Deputy Fire Chief.

MEDICAL SERVICES

Grand Rapids Charter Township provides emergency medical response services by stationing an ambulance and medical crews around the clock.  The Rockford Ambulance operates under the  name of Grand RapidsCharterTownship Ambulance.
