Board of Review

The Board of Review is required to meet in March to hear assessment and classification appeals.  The Board begins hearings of appeals by taxpayers on the Monday following the second Tuesday in March. A Petition to the Board of Review must be presented when an appeal is made.

 The Board of Review may also be required to meet in July and/or December to correct clerical errors or hear Principal Residence Exemption appeals.  Written requests must be submitted with documentation for the action to be taken by the Board.

 The Board consists of three (or six or nine) voters of Grand Rapids Township appointed by the Township Board.  Members are appointed to two year terms, with each term beginning on January 1st of an odd-numbered year.  There are no term limits.

 Board of Review meeting dates are as follows:

 There are two required meetings of the March Board of Review. They shall meet on the Tuesday immediately following the first Monday in March for the purpose of an Organizational meeting; appeals are not heard at this meeting.

 The Board of Review shall also meet on the second Monday in March for the purpose of hearing taxpayer appeals.

 The July Board of Review meets on the Tuesday following the third Monday in July if there is business to conduct.

 The December Board of Review meets on the Tuesday following the second Monday in December if there is business to conduct.
